#21DayMaskChallenge: By Wishtrend Natural Vitamin 21.5 Enhancing Sheet Mask
Happy Memorial Day, my masking muses! Today, we have the 4th installment of our #21DayMaskChallenge ready for your reading pleasure. The star of this post is By Wishtrend's Natural Vitamin 21.5 Enhancing Sheet Mask, which I decided to try as a preemptive measure — thanks to my predisposition for hyper-pigmentation — knowing I would be in Maui for one of the weeks while doing this challenge, might get tanned too quickly and need some sort of vitamin boost for brightening.
For the longest time — we’re talking months to a year here — this was one of the products I eyed on Wishtrend but was hesitant to get. The main reason for my uncertainty is my sensitivity to many types of Vitamin C, which makes my skin break out in eczema because it’s too irritable for my delicate moisture barrier. The reason I eventually decided to take the plunge was because of the kind of Vitamin C the mask contains: a combination of Hippophae rhamnoides fruit extract and Bosung Camellia sinensis (green tea leaf) extract that gives the sheet mask its 21.5% vitamin complex (11% Vitamin C and 10.5% Vitamin E). The former is known for providing stellar hydration while the latter perks skin up, and both extracts calm skin and keep inflammation at bay.
Each By Wishtrend Natural Vitamin 21.5 Enhancing Sheet Mask contains a whopping 23g of essence, which means that when you get it out of the packet, it is dripping with hydrating and brightening goodness! I often collect the residual essence (left in the packet) in a pump bottle so I can use it on my neck later. As with Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Sheet Mask, I put all my sheets into the fridge so that when it’s time for use, they’re chilled and the perfect temperature for my face. By Wishtrend also claims that this mask is free from parabens, benzophenone, phtalate, ethanol, phenoxyethanol, mineral oils, triethanolamine, surfactants, artificial colorants, artificial perfumes — basically, most irritants — and designed to be safe for use by anyone and everyone.
I used this mask once a day, spanning May 1 to May 21, and usually in the morning right after washing and drying my face. (While I was in Maui, I sometimes used it at night, since my schedule is a lot more packed with all the activities we wanted to do.) As with most of my masks, I only keep the sheet on for about 15 minutes, because if I leave it on any longer reverse osmosis kicks in and my skin starts to dry out. After masking, I would finish up with my skincare routine that includes a hyaluronic acid serum, an oil, and an occlusive (moisturizer).
Week 1: Experience and Results
I found it really easy to put this mask on my face — the cutouts fit my orifices just right and it stays on relatively well without drooping or smooshing — and I enjoyed how chockfull of essence it is. Within a few days, I noticed a general brightness in my overall skin tone, and, I daresay, less hyper-pigmentation?! I felt hopeful that it would help me allay the devastating effects of sun on my face when I venture onto tropical Maui.
Week 2: Experience and Results
I flew to Maui to celebrate my birthday with my fiancé! While I was doing fun activities that were stress-free for my mind, my skin was on the other end of the spectrum, all stressed out from 1) pressure and humidity changes from flying and being in different climates, 2) constant and relentless sun exposure, and 3) changes in my circadian rhythm because of the time difference. I was lucky that I didn’t get any eczema at all, but despite religiously slathering sunscreen and hydrating furiously, I got fried like an egg on a hot saucepan. I even bought a hat, but that did little to allay the ravages of the sun. My continuous sheet masking in Maui probably helped to ensure I didn’t get even tanner than I already did, kept the hydration levels up so I didn’t get eczema break outs, and generally, reduced inflammation all around. I did get some spots on my forehead and chest from massive sun exposure — I don’t actually get spots on those places while in mainland US — but I have to credit this mask for helping me to quickly lose the bigger spots.
Week 3: Experience and Results
I flew back to SF and got into nesting mode: unpacking, cleaning, and doing work-related things. I continued to see improvements in my skin tone overall, slowly and surely. What seemed like a cystic spot on my forehead from my time in Maui (really weird, the first of its kind), completely went away in a couple days after I got back. Again, I believe getting back to the more amenable climate of the Bay Area, and being way less exposed to the sun was a big factor, and the By Wishtrend Natural Vitamin 21.5 Enhancing Sheet Mask certainly helped to accelerate all of the healing, and the return of my natural glow. Check out my comparison pictures over the 3 weeks below:
By Wishtrend Natural Vitamin 21.5 Enhancing Sheet Mask certainly did its job to improve skin tone while also keeping hydration levels pretty high. While it is not a panacea for hyper-pigmentation, it is worthwhile to use the mask regularly to lessen it over time. For what it did for me while in Maui, I was suitably impressed — I started keeping a pump bottle of the excess essence to use on my décolletage, where I got burned. If you’re traveling to a hot, sunny, tropical country — or plan to soon — this would be a good addition to your check-in luggage!
By Wishtrend Natural Vitamin 21.5 Enhancing Sheet Mask is available on Wishtrend for $2.50/sheet, and you get more savings depending on the other bulk options available. I purchased a total of 25 sheets for $39.81; including tax and shipping it works out to approximately $2/sheet — a pretty good price for a mask!
