#21DayMaskChallenge: Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Sheet Mask
Being massive masking maniacs, we started our #21DayMaskChallenge series (yay!) earlier this month to bring you more insights on the effects of daily masking, especially with a favorite mask. Tricia kicked off the series with an eye mask, and I’m continuing our adventures featuring a full-face cotton sheet mask from Klairs to address my lack-of-hydration issues. Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Sheet Mask promises intense moisture without the irritation, which is exactly what I needed for my dry and sensitive eczema-prone skin.
I first came across this Klairs sheet mask while browsing on Wishtrend. Having received some complimentary samples when I ordered their other products, and tried it a while back, I found it chock-full of serumy-goodness. That was my simple and straightforward reason for deciding to go the full 21 days with it. I bought the required number of packets I needed (read: not sponsored; Wishtrend typically offers pretty good deals on bulk mask purchases), and I eagerly awaited its arrival.
What I learned about Klairs that struck me most was how eco-friendly and ethical they are. They stand firmly against animal testing, and avoid using alcohols, parabens, and artificial coloring in their products, including this mask. The sheet itself is made of 100% cotton, and soaked with the equivalent of half a bottle of Klairs Rich Moisturizing Essence — that’s a lot! Hyaluronic acid, being the main ingredient, is something I absolutely look forward to when I use this mask. I put all my sheets into the fridge so that when it’s time for use, they’re chilled and just the temperature perfect for my face.
I started using Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Sheet Masks once a day, spanning April 3rd to April 23rd, and usually in the morning right after washing and drying my face. I only keep the sheet on for 13-15 minutes, because any longer reverse osmosis kicks in and my skin will start drying out instead. After masking, I finish my skincare routine to complete my current 4-step reduct: serum, oil, and occlusive (moisturizer). [A note of clarification here: I find my product layers better absorbed if I use the oil before the moisturizer, which is weird (I know), but skincare is really relative so make sure you’re doing what’s best for you!]
Week 1: Experience and Results
In the past 2-3 months I was experiencing some stress-related irritation on my face, and had reduced my skincare routine to something so bare-bones (read: no sheet masking) that my skin starting experiencing more dryness. After Day 1 of using Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Sheet Mask, my immediate thoughts were how much dewier my skin felt compared to the months before. It certainly appeared to be returning to its glorier days, albeit still struggling with stress-induced inflammation. I spent a huge chunk of Week 1 in New York, and I could see and feel my skin being more resilient to the drastic weather fluctuations.
Week 2: Experience and Results
I flew back to SF on Tuesday evening and was doing some massive spring cleaning for the next few days, which meant that my skin was worked, and exposed, to more dust and dirt than usual. The daily sheet masking provided ample moisture — almost a barrier of protection against the elements. Usually, after flying, I’d experience an almost reactive eczema outbreak, as if my skin was protesting against being put through highly-variable temperature, humidity, and pressure changes. This time, I was completely fine with no signs of even an itch. I would give ample credit to the hyaluronic acid in the Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Sheet Mask for keeping my skin hydrated without clogging it.
Week 3: Experience and Results
This busy week saw my fiancé and I hosting family and doing a bunch of important things with loved ones. Despite the hectic schedule, I was still able to remember to sheet mask daily, although not always in the morning. I definitely see my skin becoming clearer, sometimes even looking luminous and radiant with a natural pink glow! I wonder if it had to do with the sheet masks? I couldn’t imagine another cause for that lovely effect.
I certainly think the Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Sheet Mask is a worthy one — even though it doesn’t lighten my hyperpigmentation/freckles/brown spots — because it does what is expected, keeping my skin calm and dewy. Sometimes other masks I use will sting my sensitive skin and irritate it with their actives, but the Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Sheet Mask performs beautifully as a steady and calming work horse that delivers the required hydration needed for those with dry skin all over like myself. I even kept a pump bottle of the excess serum to slather on other parts of my body, and found that it keeps the skin on the back of my arms from turning into white flakes. And if you travel often too, I highly suggest taking a few sheets with you on the plane as part of your flying routine to lock in the moisture. Using this, followed by a hyaluronic acid serum and then an oil/balm, really works well for me in low humidity zones.
Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Sheet Mask is available on Wishtrend for $2/sheet, and you get more savings depending on the other bulk options available. I purchased a total of 25 sheets for $23.48; including tax and shipping it works out to approximately $1.50/sheet — a good deal all around!
