Joint Review: Eve Lom's Rescue Mask
Elaine and I are back with another joint review, and this time, we're talking about Eve Lom's Rescue Mask! This treatment clay mask has won beauty awards and is designed to gently decongest pores and boosts skin's radiance. Read on to find out what we think of this product!
The First Impression.
Elaine: First started using this more than a year ago — it has the consistency of a thick, dipping sauce and smells like calamine lotion! My husband and I nicknamed it the "tartar sauce mask" because of the bits of dark clay flecked in the light-colored clay base. (LOL.) I love how it doesn't irritate my very dry and hypersensitive skin! In fact, whenever I get a small bump and still want to do a mask, I'd reach for this first.
Tricia: The first thing was — such chic packaging! I bought the 50ml tube version of the mask and have been using it for a few months now. In fact, Elaine was the one who introduced me to Eve Lom! I remember being a little surprised by the smell initially because it reminded me of the old school Mentholatum ointment, and I wasn't expecting that! I also thought it was pretty expensive for the amount.
Favorite thing about the product.
Elaine: Not only is it extremely soothing for my skin type and preps my skin well for the rest of my routine, I like how I can double it up as an overnight spot treatment too — and it works super well! I usually see a bump size reduction of more than 50%, sometimes entirely, on the occasions I've used it as a spot treatment.
Tricia: My favorite thing about the product is the fact that it cleanses my skin without over-drying it. I have combination skin with dry cheeks, and clay masks can sometimes cause my cheeks to redden due to an intense loss of hydration. However, this rescue mask doesn't do that to my cheeks at all. Another favorite thing about this product is that it helps decongest my pores; my skin looks a lot clearer after using the mask.
If you could change one thing, what would it be?
Elaine: So I've used the tube version (which is great for traveling) and also the jar version, and I have to say that I rather much prefer the jar one because I can give the mask a good mix with a spatula before using it. I have seen some separation from this product consistently, and the tube version needs a really good shake to get everything homogenous, otherwise sometimes, your first squeeze might just be liquid.
Tricia: I wish it didn't come in a tube-shaped packaging. Sometimes when I squeeze the tube, I just get some liquid and no clay, and that makes me feel like the tube doesn't allow the formula to mix in with each other very well. I know they have the tub version, so I might give that a try next time. Another thing would be to lower the price a little.
Would you recommend it? Why?
Elaine: Of course! For dry and sensitive skin types, it can be hard to find a good quality mask that does not, unfortunately, make your skin feel raw and inflamed after use. For what it does and how it is still soothing and easy on my skin, the Eve Lom Rescue Mask has a permanent spot on my top shelf, along with some of my other Eve Lom faves. (And get the jar version too, if you can splurge!)
Tricia: Yep! I've gotten a few from the Black Friday weekend to stock up for myself and to give as gifts as well! I think Eve Lom as a brand has great products and the rescue mask seems to work well with various skin types. I personally think more people should know about the brand and use their products! I am currently using their hydration cream too, and loving it!
