Chinese New Year Special: How to Use Red in Makeup 💄 Without Looking Like a Clown 🤡
I've been so busy recently that it completely took me by surprise that this Saturday is Chinese New Year! When I lived in Singapore, celebrating this holiday was a big affair — it is basically Thanksgiving and Christmas combined for people of Chinese ancestry — we'd get 2 days off school, there'd be a boatload of food for friends and family, us kids would get a brand new wardrobe, we'd go to our relatives to visit, catch up and collect red packets, and celebrations could last up to 15 days. It seemed like a million years ago that I celebrated Chinese New Year in such a big way. As the Year of the Monkey year concludes and we usher in the Year of the Rooster, I'm glad that I was able to end this past lunar year with a generally net positive outcome — and I can't wait for the big, exciting changes this year will bring.
Because I live in United States, Chinese New Year is not a big thing here, but nevertheless I try to weave a little festivity into my life whenever it is this time of the year. I like to incorporate red, the de facto auspicious color, in what I wear for this season — rocking a makeup look featuring crimson but not looking overdone is my goal. Hence, our third vlog on how to use red in makeup without looking like a clown... We hope you find it helpful! Here's to matching the right shade of red to your skin tone, and pulling off some glossy gold lids with a red cat eye, after the jump. 🙈
