Radiance Discovery: One Simple Way to Iron Out Cracked Heels Overnight
Three weekends ago, I attended one of my best girlfriend’s wedding in Taipei. As one of her six bridesmaids, I was happy for her and extremely excited. But the night before, after a long day of running errands like a headless chicken, I got home and realized my heels got roughened up pretty badly from walking around all day. And...I was going to wear heeled sandals to go with my appointed bridesmaid dress.
I didn’t have the time and energy to go through a 10-step heel care routine then. Plus, we were going for an early start the next day with makeup as the first item on the agenda. Oops.
Just as I was about to (sing) let it be, let it be, let it be, I decided to look through my “New Things to Try” beauty box. Luckily, I found a pack of Heel Gel Sheets by Lion (8 pieces for US$14.99) I discovered in a Japanese cosmetics shop a while back, and thankfully, these completely SAVED my heels.
The secret weapon comes in a box of 4 sets, shaped like a flower petal in a cute pink shade, and is formulated from jojoba oil, fruit extract and water. Jojoba oil is quite an unique ingredient, as it closely resembles a substance produced by our skin glands called sebum! So it basically is one of the most natural skin conditioners out there, am I right?
Every jelly-textured, cooling sheet has a thin layer of plastic on the sticky side. As instructed, I removed the plastic, placed the center of the sheet right on the bottom of my heel, and folded the petals upward to the back and two sides of my heel. And then – I went to bed! Woohoo!
The following morning, I woke up thinking the gel sheet must have fallen off, but I was wrong! Although some parts of the corners came off a little, I would say it generally stayed on surprisingly well. I peeled off the gel petals, and rubbed off the tiny bits of gluey residue. I then took a good look at my heels, and was genuinely impressed (and did a happy dance in my head).
Some lines were still a little visible, but overall, my heels were a lot smoother, much softer, and very well-moisturized. The best part? It wasn’t greasy at all! If my heels were greased up, it would make walking on heeled sandals a bit difficult (for me, at least), so I was glad I could hop right out of bed and slip into my strappy heels immediately.
Since then, I’ve used the gel sheets twice on my heels (and once on the elbows too, hehe; well, no one said I couldn’t!). I realized it works even better after soaking my feet in hot water and filing it. The lines have gotten smoothened out even more after the second and third application. Because my skin is always extra dry in the winter, I find these petals tremendously helpful on the roughest parts of my body. Hopefully, you’ll find them effective, too!
